How can I reuse or recycle mobile phone chargers?
We’ve had an email from Angelica asking about how she can recycle mobile phone chargers.
Some charities/companies that take old mobiles accept the chargers too since they’ll re-sell working phones to the developing world (for example in the UK, Help the Aged) but this isn’t the case with every phone recycling scheme. It might be worth checking with the ones that do take chargers if they take chargers by themselves.
Another idea might be to offer it on your local Freecycle group in case anyone in your area needs a replacement or wants a spare.
Any other ideas?

what about using them as weights for tablecloths. Attach a bulldog clip to the tablecloth at each corner and slip the cord through. Add beads or whatever. Makes a great idea for outdoors in summer, kids partys whatever..
Sell them on ebay?
Great post!
If the economics don’t work, recycling efforts won’t either.
As our little contribution to make this economics of recycling more appealing, http://LivePaths.com blogs about people and companies that make money selling recycled or reused items, provide green services or help us reduce our dependency on non renewable resources.
You can always donate them to women’s shelters. They can be used with old cell phones and the one I worked at had an arrangement with many of the cell companies, they’d pay for the old chargers and phones.
HI. I just went on the linked website and they accept chargers from you, sell them and give the money to the charity.

Sainsbury’s will have a place to recycle old mobile phone chargers and other types of charge in every store across the UK for the whole month of August.
Hi – I emailed Sainsbury’s to ask about this before seeign Carl’s note. To echo Carl’s response, this is what Sainsbury customer service said-
I am pleased to say that from the 31st July until the 28th August we will have charger recycling bins at the entrance to all of our stores.
If you go along to your nearest store whenever it is suitable for you, we would appreciate your kind donation.
I gave my old mobile to my telecommunication provider in order to recycle it. I was asured that this is a green method.
Does anyone know what Sainsbury’s did with the mobile phone chargers they collected in August. Are they going to repeat it or does anyone else recycle them?
I collect and send Mobile phones for recycling to raise money for Leukaemia Research but the company do not want the chargers any more
