How can I reuse or recycle a broken bike helmet?
Jami has asked what can be done with “broken bike helmets”.
Like children’s car seats, hardshell bike helmets have to be retired after a bump in case they’ve been damaged structurally and so might not be as protective at the critical moment.
Like hard hats, I bet they’d made fun hanging baskets – or even used for something like growing tomatoes upside down.
Any other suggestions?

I converted one into a headdress for a spider for a child for World Book Day with a pair of tights and old coat hangers.
Forgot to say he won a prize. Not bad for a kid who hates dressing up. But he now thinks he can wear the same outfit every year and win a prize!!
*thinks*
They’re polystyrene, no?
I think there could be packing or makeshift-coolbox potential there….
As for the shell? I think a hanging basket would be your best bet.
We left an old cycle helmet hanging in our bike shelter and some robins came and nested in it!
