I’ll be in Milton Keynes next Thursday and have about 20 childrens vhs including Lion King, Lion King 2, Jungle Book, Mulan, The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. I have a box of treasured video tapes that I have to get rid of because I am downsizing. Short of anyone collecting them I will leave them with a charity
The heart foundation told me to put them in bin outside as there bin was full. They were all good used once it really annoyed me.

I was looking for a way to avoid tapes going to landfill and have just come across Environmental Media Solutions Limited, Kingswood, Bristol (don’t know if there are other places in the country too) who recycle VHS tapes.

As previously mentioned by somebody else, there is a firm in Bristol (Longwell Green to be precise) who will accept unlimited amounts of videos, DVDs, CDs, floppy disks etc etc from householders free of charge to recycle. They are called Environmental Media Solutions. You can drop stuff off there (like I did), or you can send it to them, but that costs money of course. But they are the only place I know who will recycle videos etc and don’t charge individuals for disposal, thus sparing it from going in landfill. I have about 50 kids/children’s video’s many of them Disney/Princess movies. Need to get rid of them as no room anymore, but want them to be re-used/re-watched by others. An update, as from a few days ago EMS in Bristol have stopped accepting domestic VHS cassette tapes for recycling citing a fall in the prices of plastics and oil. I rang them last week to advise that I would be delivering about 200 unwanted VHS tapes to them on my way down to South Wales and was told then that the service would be closing in about four weeks time.
I must have scared them off as it was withdrawn I think immediately after I made my call, so sorry for that. I think that means that there is now absolutely nowhere certainly in England that will accept VHS tapes for recycling. I’ve stored mine for a couple of years until I knew I would be travelling close to Bristol but very regrettably it looks as if they will have to go to landfill, which as a health professional is the very last thing I wanted to do but there are no other options at this time
I’ve got over 50 VHS videos, which includes many classic movies, horror films and Disney films. I’m looking to get rid of them. I’m based in London. I’m doing a massive clearance, and if nobody seems interested in them. I might just need to thrown them all away. Hopefully someone is.
